Bend, but don’t break
"Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind." - Bruce Lee
Create a supple yet resilient body through a dynamic approach to flexibility, joint mobility, stability and (p)rehab. These classes will prepare the body for the rigors of daily movement and your training or practice.
+ What does this class involve?
This isn't your average stretch class
Each class combines a mixture of exercises, routines and protocols collected from gymnastics, martial arts, physiotherapy, yoga, strength & conditioning and more.
Our aim isn't just to improve your flexibility - we help you get stronger in your new flexibility so that you can control and use your range of motion without the risk of injury.
Some sessions will focus on a particular position (such as the Pancake, Pike or Bridge), while other sessions will focus on a particular task (such as freeing up the posterior chain, or reversing postural restrictions caused by modern lifestyle).
Mobility vs Flexibility - is there a difference?
Yes, there is. The simplest way to understand this, is:
- Flexibility is the ability of a muscle to lengthen (passive).
- Mobility on the other hand is the ability of a joint to move actively through a range of motion, requiring strength and control (active).
Since range of motion (or a lack of) is the most common limitation to strength and general movement capacity, we use a mixture of active/loaded and passive/relaxed stretching techniques, that allow you to have strength and control within your flexibility (ie, mobility).
Resilience to injury: you are only as strong as your weakest link
We prepare and lay the ground work needed to create a resilient body, using joint prehab and rehab methods to create structural integrity. Too many times we see people come to us with injuries from their previous training that could have easily been prevented through the right preparation.
+ Who is this class suitable for?
Anyone who lives inside of a body
With our progressive approach, we tailor and scale movements to suit each individual. Age is just a number; all adults are welcome.
Whether you are as limber as a cat, or as flexible as a steel pipe, we cater for both ends of the spectrum to make sure that you are challenged with appropriate movements for your level.
If this is the first time for you, we make sure to ease you into our curriculum and allow you to go at your own pace.
